Rain Gardens

Rain gardens are becoming an important addition to many communities because they protect the local environment.  Rain gardens help keep runoff from reaching our rivers, and filter out pollutants at the same time.  (This is the same runoff that contributes to severe flooding.)  Technically, a rain garden is the opposite of a raised flower bed because it is actually a small depression in your yard.  However, you don’t have to worry about this flower bed becoming a swamp because special plants are used to soak up all that water.  Many of these rain-garden plants have the added bonus of attracting butterflies and hummingbirds.  As a matter of fact, if you have a soggy place in your yard, a rain garden might be your perfect solution, and you’ll be helping the environment at the same time.

Check out the link below for background information on rain gardens and easy "how-to" instructions.

Also, check our class listings periodically for rain garden classes at our business.

We are currently carrying a selection of native grasses that are an essential part of any rain garden.  And for added color, we have grown native flowers such as liatris, coreopsis, rudbeckia, and echinacea.  Our native grasses come in gallon containers for $4.95, and our perennial flowers are for sale from $7.95.
